National Access Access Consultants are experienced professionals who provide up to date and expert advice on the provision of access for people with disabilities to governments, the building industry, designers, owners and managers of buildings and facilities. Provision of advice and interpretation of

  • Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards;

1. Access audits and reports

Existing building audits

BCA Audits and due diligence reports on existing buildings. Our building access audits may include assessment of:

Design Reviews – New Building Work

Provision of advice, from design development to construction documentation.

Services include:

  • Review of preliminary design plans and provision of a preliminary access report;
  • Consulting with the design team throughout the design development stages of a project;
  • Plan reviews at critical design milestones; update access report where necessary;
  • Issue final access report for inclusion with tender/construction documentation.

Additional advice/site inspections may be provided throughout the construction phase to ensure compliance with relevant Codes and Standard where required.

2. Performance Solutions/Unjustifiable Hardship

National Access have qualified and experienced staff capable of preparing Performance Solutions in accordance with the Accessibility Codes and Standards.

With 40+ years of combined code application experience and continual professional development to provide cost effective compliance options and design alternatives relating to accessibility. Our areas of expertise include interpretation and application of the Building Code of Australia and related codes and guidelines including Premises Standard.

Haley Thornton

Access Consultant and Building Surveyor

As co-founder and director of National Access, Haley is passionate about creating inclusive and accessible buildings and public spaces. Her extensive background and expertise in building regulation and performance solutions helps organisations identify cost effective solutions to meet the needs of all building users. Haley is skilled at negotiating with Consent Authorities, preparing large scale access audits, preparing performance solutions, and liaising with the design team throughout the design and construct phase of the project. With over a two decades professional services her breadth of experience includes projects in health, education, seniors living, aged care, museums and galleries, civic buildings, commercial, sporting facilities and transport. Haley is an Associate Member of the ACAA and a Member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors.

Peter Thornton

Building Surveyor and Fire Safety Engineer

National Access is a subsidiary of BCA Check building regulation consultants, providing speciality access advice. Peter Thornton is the Principal of BCA Check. Peter holds a Masters Degree in Fire Safety Engineering providing valuable input into complex building solutions involving access and egress. Peter’s experience spans a diverse range of projects involving new and existing buildings of all Classes including health, education, aged-care, multi-residential, and public buildings.
